Yves de Kermabon (November 4, 1948 in Marvejols, Lozère) is a former General of the French Army. He was the Commander of KFOR from 2004 to 2005 and Head of Mission of EU Rule of Law Mission EULEX from 2008 to 2010.
Military career[]
Yves de Kermabon attended the Saint-Cyr military academy in 1970 and trained as an artillery and cavalry officer.
The longest time he served in the 1st Cavalry Regiment of the French Foreign Legion (1er REC). There he rose from the platoon commander (Sous-lieutenant) over the company commander (Capitaine commandant d'unité élémentaire) to the Colonel and regimental commander.
During his time as a company commander, he was sent to Africa three times: in the Chad (1978 and 1979) and in the Central African Republic 1981. As Commander of the 1er REC he provided with his foreign legionnaires a six-month service in the frame the UN Transitional Administration in Cambodia.
De Kermabon also served in various staff functions within the French Army: he was adviser to the General Troop Inspector (1984-1987), Deputy Chief of Army Department in the Military Cabinet of the Ministry of Defense (1989–91), Chief of Staff of the 6th Light Armored Division (1994-1997) and Chief of Cabinet of the Director-General of the Army Personnel Office (1997-1998).
During his service in the 6th Light Armored Division, he participated in two foreign missions in the former Yugoslavia: in his first assignment from January to May 1995 as Deputy Commander of the Sarajevo sector under UNPROFOR, in his Second deployment from December 1995 to May 1996 as Chief of Staff of the Multinational Division South-East of the IFOR Protection Forces.
After being promoted to Brigadier General in October 1998, he was Deputy Department Head for Recruitment and Recruitment at the Army Personnel Office. From August 2000 to October 2002 he was commander of the 6th Light Tank Division.
During this time he was for four months commander of the Multinational Brigade (MNB) North in Mitrovica, Kosovo. On October 1, 2002, he was promoted to Géneral de division and received command of the senior staff 4 of the Einsatztruppen. In March 2003, he was again used in Kosovo, this time as Deputy. Commander KFOR for six months.
From September 1, 2004 to August 31, 2005, he was tenth Commander Kosovo Force (COMKFOR). His last promotion to Général de corps d'armée took place in October 2004.
From October 1, 2005 to 2007, he was the commander of the newly created "Général de corps de réaction rapide - France (QG CRR-FR)" (headquarters of the rapid response forces) of the French army in Lille.
In February 2008, de Kermabon was appointed Head of the EU Crisis Mission EULEX Kosovo.

Kermabon is married and has five children.
