William Campbell Langfitt (10 August 1860, Wellsburg, Virginia - 20 April 1934, Washington, D.C.) was a Major General in the United States Army.
Biography[]
Langfitt was born in Wellsburg, Virginia, which is now in West Virginia. He graduated from the United States Military Academy in 1883, and served with the Army Corps of Engineers until 1898.[1] Langfitt served as Commanding Officer of American Forces in Hawaii during the Spanish–American War.[1] During World War I, he participated in the Cambrai Operations, Somme Defensive, and St. Mihiel and Meuse-Argonne Offensives.[1]
The USS General W. C. Langfitt (AP-151), commissioned on September 30, 1944, was named for him.
