William Clyde Baker, Jr. (9 May 1904 - 5 October 1966) was an American Major general who served in the United States Army during World War II.

Biography[]

William Baker, Jr. was born 9 May 1904 in North Carolina.[1]

He died 5 October 1966 at Walter Reed Army Hospital in Washington, D.C.[1][2] and was buried at Arlington National Cemetery.[1][2] His grave can be found in section 2, site 861-C.[1][2]

Army Distinguished Service Medal citation[]

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal to Major General William Clyde Baker, Jr. (ASN: 0-16371), United States Army, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished service in a position of great responsibility to the Government of the United States, during the period April 1953 to April 1964.[3]

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, 20 July 1942, takes pleasure in presenting a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Second Award of the Legion of Merit to Colonel (Corps of Engineers) William C. Baker, Jr. (ASN: 0-16371), United States Army, for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States with the G-5 Section, Headquarters, European Theater of Operations, from November 1945 to June 1947.[3]
