The Westheer ("Western army") was the German Army fighting on the Western front of World War II. The Oberbefehlshaber West was the command structure for the Westheer.

History[]

It was composed of Army Group H, which was based in the Netherlands, and Army Group B under Field Marshal Erwin Rommel. It also included Army Group G, which was based in southern France. It was commanded by Gerd von Rundstedt at the time of Operation Overlord. Hitler's refusal to let it concentrate reserves for a quick strike at the Allied beachhead in Normandy was the first step towards its demise, which was facilitated by the destruction of the Falaise pocket, which consisted of Army Group B.
