USS Sam Nunn (DDG-133) is a planned Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer of the United States Navy, the 83th overall for the class.[1] She will be named in honor of Samuel Augustus Nunn, Jr., a U.S. Senator represented Georgia who served the Senate from 1972 to 1997 and served as chairman of the United States Senate Committee on Armed Services and the Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations. On 6 May 2019 she was named by Secretary of the Navy Richard V. Spencer.[2] Nunn was a U.S. Senator representing Georgia, who served in Congress from 1972 to 1997, and was chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee and the Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations.[3] The ship's sponsor is Michelle Nunn, daughter of former Senator Nunn.[4] Fabrication of the ship began on 12 December 2022.[5]
