Troop B, 1st Squadron, 153rd Cavalry Regiment is a motorized reconnaissance troop, a unit of the Florida Army National Guard, stationed in Pensacola, Florida. The unit has deployed several times in support of the Global War on Terrorism, including to Iraq from 2003 to 2004, to Qatar in 2010, and Djibouti from 2015 to 2016.

Post World War II[]

The company was first organized in DeFuniak Springs, Florida under command of Captain J. R. Cawthorn on December 6, 1947 during the post-WW II reorganization of the Florida National Guard.[1] In February 1963, Company D, 1st Armored Rifle Battalion, 124th Infantry reorganized as the 267th Engineer Co. In March 1964, the engineer company was redesignated the 153d Engineer Company, minus two engineer platoons stationed in Quincy, Florida. In January 1968, the unit was reorganized into Company B, 3d Battalion, 124th Infantry. The company had a mess team at their home station and a detachment of two rifle platoons in Quincy.[2][3] On March 1, 1998, Company B was restationed one hour away in Pensacola.[4]

Global War on Terrorism[]

Company B, along with its parent unit, 3d Battalion, 124th Infantry was ordered into federal service in January, 2003. Company B was stationed in Iraq until the Spring of 2004 when it returned home. With the transformation of the 53d Infantry Brigade (Separate) to an Infantry Brigade Combat Team, the 3d Battalion, 124th Infantry converted to 1st Squadron, 153d Cavalry. Company B consolidated with Det. 1, Company B and converted to Troop B on September 1, 2007.[5] In 2010, Troop B deployed with its parent unit, the 1-153 Cavalry, part of the 53rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team in support of Operations Iraqi Freedom and New Dawn where it was stationed at As Sayliyah Army Base in Qatar. From 2015-2016, Troop B, attached to 2d Battalion, 124th Infantry, deployed to Djibouti where they guarded Chabelley Airfield.
