During World War II, the regiment was designated as the reconnaissance regiment for the 7th Canadian Infantry Division. In December 1942 the regiment was attached to the 2nd Canadian Infantry Division and moved overseas to Scotland in July 1943; later becoming Number 1 Canadian Armoured Corp Company, Canadian Equipment Assembly Unit.
