A tail warning radar was a short-lived class of aircraft-mounted radar systems used to provide warning of another aircraft approaching from the rear. They were mostly used on bombers, although Luftwaffe night fighters also mounted them to provide some protection from the dreaded "Serrate" intruder flights. Some systems combined early warning with the ability to aim defensive guns.
