Susan J. Rabern is a retired United States Navy officer and was the Assistant Secretary of the Navy (Financial Management and Comptroller).[1]
Biography[]
Susan Rabern joined the United States Navy in 1980.[2] She married David W. Rabern who retired as a Colonel from the United States Air Force. She has three daughters from her previous marriage to James M. Blunt, who retired as a Lieutenant Commander from the United States Navy.[2]
While serving as an officer in the United States Navy, Susan Rabern held a number of positions including as a member of the staff of the Chief of Naval Operations and the Joint Chiefs of Staff.[1] She attended the Industrial College of the Armed Forces, National Defense University[2] where she worked on U.S. engagement with the former Soviet Union.[1]
She retired in August 2001 from the United States Navy as a Captain[2] and was appointed Assistant Director & Chief Financial Officer when she was selected as to be a member of the Senior Executive Service with the Federal Bureau of Investigations. She held positions wiht the U.S. Customs Service, U.S. Agency for International Development and eventually was appointed as the Assistant Secretary of the Navy (Financial Management and Comptroller) in August 30, 2013.[1] After retiring from the Navy, she received a Doctor of Philosophy (Phd) degree from the University of Virginia. While attending the University of Virginia, she also taught at the Virginia Military Institute and later served as it's first Director of the Center for Leadership & Ethics.[1]
