Steven Paul Logan is a United States Magistrate Judge for the District of Arizona and is a nominee to be a United States District Judge of the United States District Court for the District of Arizona.

Biography[]

Education and military service[]

Logan received a Bachelor of Science degree in 1988 from the University of Louisville. He received a Juris Doctorate in 1992 from the University of Oklahoma College of Law. He has served twenty three years in the United States Marine Corps concurrent with his civilian career, currently holding the rank of Colonel and currently serving on the Navy-Marine Corps Court of Criminal Appeals. During his career, he has served two tours in Iraq, one term in Afghanistan and served six years as a military trial judge. He received the Bronze Star and Combat Action Ribbon for his second tour of duty in Iraq.[1]

Legal and judicial service[]

From 1999 to 2001, Logan served as an Assistant United States Attorney in the District of Minnesota. From 2001 to 2010, he served as an Assistant United States Attorney in the District of Arizona. From 2008 to 2009, he served as Chief of the White Collar and Public Corruption Section in that office. From 2010 to 2012, he served as a United States Immigration Judge. Since January 2012, he has served as a United States Magistrate Judge in the District of Arizona.[2]

Nomination to district court[]

On September 19, 2013, President Barack Obama nominated Logan to serve as a United States District Judge of the United States District Court for the District of Arizona, to the seat vacated by Judge James A. Teilborg, who took senior status on January 30, 2013. His nomination is currently pending before the Senate Judiciary Committee.[3]
