The Siege of Dara occurred in 573, during the Byzantine–Sassanid War of 572–591. The siege lasted 4 months and ended with the city's fall to the Sassanid Persians. The news of the fall of Dara, long a major Byzantine stronghold in Upper Mesopotamia, reportedly drove Emperor Justin II insane.
