The scuttling of the Peruvian fleet took place at the port of El Callao in January 1881. As Chileans troops entered Lima and El Callao that had been surrendered the Peruvian navy officer Germán Astete ordered the whole Peruvian fleet to by scuttled to prevent capture by Chile. The ships scuttled included:
