In the Royal Navy, the Fleet flagship is the ship designated as a main ship. It is usually an aircraft carrier but since the 2010 Strategic Defence and Security Review, HMS Albion, an amphibious assault ship, was designated as the fleet flagship.[1] However, her sister ship, HMS Bulwark, took over from her in late 2011. HMS Queen Elizabeth assumed the role of Fleet Flagship on 27 January 2021.[2][3] Flagship can also indicate that of shore establishments run by senior Naval commanders. In 1960, the Commanders-in-Chief of the Home Fleet and its successors the Western Fleet and the Fleet have flown their flags ashore in HMS Warrior in Northwood.[citation needed]
