The Régiment Royal Roussillon was a French Army regiment active during the late 17th century and 18th century. It is principally known for its role in the Seven Years' War, when it served in the North American theatre.

History[]

The regiment was recruited in the regions of Perpignan, Roussillon and Catalonia. They served at the Battle of Fontenoy in 1745 during the War of the Austrian Succession.

They then arrived in New France in May 1756, and were originally posted in Montreal, with the exception of a detachment which was sent to Fort Carillon. In 1757, the entire regiment was mobilised for action against Fort William Henry. After that victory, the regiment took part in the 1758 Battle of Carillon. They then went to Quebec City to defend the city. They participated in the battles of Montmorency, Plains of Abraham and Sainte-Foy.[1]
