The Poorvi Star is awarded to personnel in various services of India who participated in operations in and around Bangladesh during the 1971 war.[1]

Criteria[]

All ranks of the Army, Navy, and Air Force, of any Reserve Force, Territorial Army and J&K Militia and any other armed forces of India

All ranks of the Railway Protection Force, Police Forces, Home Guards, Civil Defence Organizations and any other organization specified by Government;

Civilians of either sex serving under the order/directions or supervision of the above forces

Appearance[]

The medal is in the form of a five pointed star with bevelled rays, made of tombac bronze 40 mm across with one point uppermost to which shall be fitted a ring for the Riband. On the obverse in the centre, it has the State Emblem with its motto superimposed and circular band (2 millimetres) in width and 20 millimetres in diameter at its outer edges) surrounding the State Emblem and broken at the top by the heads of the lions. On this band is the inscriptions “POORVI STAR” on either side of the state Emblem in raised letters. The reverse of the medal is plain.[1]

Riband 32 millimetres in width divided into three equal parts of green, gold and green colours.[1]
