Margaretha Sandra (Middelburg, 1629 – Aardenburg, Zeeland, 1674), was a Dutch heroine, known for participation in the defence of Aardenburg during the siege of the French in 1672. The small fortress town had few soldiers so the women dressed themselves as soldiers and manned the city walls to appear to be soldiers to the enemy. They managed to hold the city until reinforcements arrived without losses. Margaretha Sandra made ammunition during the battle and has been pointed out as a representative for all the women taking part in the defence.
