Mapenduma Hostage Crisis is a hostage crisis which happened on January 8, 1996 in Mapenduma, Jayawijaya, 26 members of '95 Lorentz Expedition are kidnapped and taken hostage by the Free Papua Movement. This hostage crisis is ended in May 9, 1996.
Background[]
On January 8, 1996 Mission Aviation Fellowship Wamena branch sent a report to Jawawijaya Military District Command in Irian Jaya. That report said that some researchers from the Lorentz 95 Expedition team had been taken hostage by the Free Papua Movement.
