Manuel Gutierrez Abasta Jr. (14 November 1916 in Douglas, Arizona - Killed in action 15 April 1945 in Italy) was an American Private First Class in the United States Army during World War II.
Early life[]
Manuel was born in Douglas, Arizona on 14 November 1916 to Manuel Sr. and Rosaria G. Abasta. He also had four sisters (Julia, Vera, Emma, and Ermenia) and two brothers (Nargaria and Ramond).
Military service[]
Manuel enlisted in the United States Army from Pheonix, Arizona on 15 May 1943 (ASN: 39859665). He was a member of A Company, 87th Infantry Regiment, 10th Mountain Division.
Death[]
On April 15, 1945 he was killed in action on the second day of the spring offensive to break out into the Po Valley from the Apennine Mountains in north central Italy. His body was buried in the Florence American Cemetery and Memorial in Florence, Italy.
Personal life[]
He was married to a girl named Pauline. They had three children (Manuel III, Gloria, and Raymond).
