The Médaille de la Gendarmerie nationale is a French military decoration created September 5, 1949.
History[]
The medal was established to reward citations to officers and NCO's of la Gendarmerie nationale. It may also be awarded to individuals who have, through special missions, rendered significant assistance to the poilce.
Medal[]
The medal is round, on the obverse is a helmet resting on a sword pointing upward, it bears the inscription "Gendarmerie nationale". The reverse has a laurel wreath with the words "Courage Discipline". Subsequent awards of the medal are denoted by grenade shaped clasps attached to the ribbon.
