With the creation of the Royal Flying Corps in April 1912, the following squadrons were established:

Most squadrons (from No. 8 Squadron) were established during World War I after it began in June 1914. The RFC was reformed into the RAF on 1st April 1918. There is a detailed list of RAF squadrons.
