The January 2014 Turkish airstrike in Syria[1] occurred on Tuesday, 28 January 2014, when Turkish aircraft allegedly targeted an ISIS convoy inside Syria.[2][3] According to the Turkish General Staff, a pickup, a truck, and a bus in an ISIS convoy were destroyed.[2]

The initial report said that Turkish F-16s had struck a number of ISIS vehicles "after militants opened fire on a military outpost" on the Turkey-Syria border on Wednesday. NTV did not mention any involvement of the Turkish Air Force.

Reactions[]

  • Flag of Turkey Turkey - Turkish officials said the January 28 attack came in retaliation for ISIS fire on the Turkish Army along the Syrian border. They also cited ISIS raids against ethnic Turkish communities in northern Syria, which sparked an exodus of thousands to Turkey. The Turkish attack came amid threats by ISIS to expand operations into Turkey, a NATO state.[2]
