James S. Alban was a member of the Wisconsin State Senate.
Biography[]
Alban was born James Shane Alban on April 7, 1810 in Jefferson County, Ohio.[1] He would marry Amanda Harris. They would have five children. In 1838, Alban and his family moved to Sauk County, Wisconsin. Amanda died in 1843. The following year, Alban re-married and moved to Plover, Wisconsin. During the American Civil War, he was commissioned a colonel with the 18th Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry Regiment of the Union Army. Alban would be killed in action at the Battle of Shiloh on April 6, 1862.[2] He was succeeded in his command by future U.S. Representative Gabriel Bouck.
Political career[]
Alban was a member of the Senate from 1852 to 1853. Previously, he had been District Attorney and Treasurer of Portage County, Wisconsin. He was a member of the Whig Party.[3]
