J. Vreeland Moore (born in 1824–died in 1903) was a brigadier general of the 1st New Jersey Regiment who played a major role in the history of Leonia, New Jersey. A resident of Leonia for over 50 years, he was a member of the first council which was formed when Leonia was incorporated as a borough in 1894. He served as council president for two terms. The following is the letter Moore wrote stating the name change from West Fort Lee to Leonia:
At a meeting of the residents of the neighborhood on the east of the Overpeck Creek and near to the Station, hitherto known as Fort Lee, on the Northern Railroad of New Jersey, on Monday, the thirteenth day of November instant, it was unanimousluy resolved to adopt the name of "Leonia" for said neighborhood.

Moore died in 1903 at the age of 79. In Leonia, the roads Vreeland Avenue and Moore Avenue were named after him.
