The IP-2 is a 5.45mm machine gun designed by V.M.Kalashnikov and M.E.Dragunov from 1972–77 years. The gun can be fed by magazines with a capacity 45 rounds or a 200 round ammunition belt. The IP-2's sights are graduated to distance of 1000 m.[1][2]
Machine guns were pretty thoroughly tested by the Soviet Army in Leningrad, but military experts did not see convincing arguments for replacing staff and machine guns RPK and RPK-74 with the IP-2 design. According to the military, the design was too complex, compared to other weapons then in use, which failed to enhance combat effectiveness.
