HMS Crescent was a 28-gun Enterprise-class sixth-rate frigate of the Royal Navy. The Crescent was first commissioned in about September 1779 under the command of Captain Charles Hope.
Capture[]
The French captured Crescent on 20 June 1781. She was in company with the frigates Flora and the prize Castor and Flora, all three weakened by the engagements on 31 May and 19 June. The British vessels encountered two large French frigates off Ushant, and separated, being in no condition to fight again. At 4am the Gloire and Friponne caught up with Crescent and after an exchange of fire, Crescent struck.[1]
Fate[]
The French took Crescent into service. She was wrecked on the reefs off Petit-Goâve, San Domingo, in January 1786.[2]
