Major General (Generalmajor) Franz Krech was a German commader of the 41st Infantry Division (Wehrmacht) during World War II, killed on 27 April 1944 by a platoon of the Greek People's Liberation Army in Laconia.[1][2]
The operation and his execution by ELAS led to harsh reprisals by the occupying forces, such as the 1 May 1944 Kaisariani executions. Krech was posthumously promoted to Lieutenant General (Generalleutnant) by Hitler and buried in Athens.
