Private Frank E. Fesq (April 4, 1840 to May 6, 1920) was an German soldier who fought in the American Civil War. Fesq received the United States' highest award for bravery during combat, the Medal of Honor, for his action during the Third Battle of Petersburg in Virginia on 2 April 1865. He was honored with the award on 10 May 1865.[1][2][3]

Biography[]

Fesq was born in Germany on 4 April 1840. He enlisted into the 40th New Jersey Infantry. He died on 6 May 1920 and his remains are interred at the Rosedale Cemetery in Orange, New Jersey.

Capture of flag of 18th North Carolina (Confederate States of America) within the enemy's works.[1][2]
