Major-General Frank Griffiths Caldwell OBE MC (born 1921) is a former British Army officer who became Assistant Chief of the General Staff.

Military career[]

After attending the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, Caldwell was commissioned into the Royal Engineers in 1940 during World War II.[1] He served in the Middle East, where he was awarded the Military Cross in May 1941[2] and a bar to it in December 1941,[3] and in North West Europe.[4] He also served in Malaya during the Malayan Emergency in the rank of major.[5] He appointed Director of Defence Operational Plans at the Ministry of Defence in 1970[6] and Assistant Chief of the General Staff (Operational Requirements) in 1972 before retiring in 1974.[7]

He married Betty Palmer Buesden; they have a daughter and a son.[8]
