Maj. General Fadhil Jamil al-Barwari is an Iraqi military commander and the head of the Iraqi Counter Terrorism Bureau.He joined the Iraqi Army in 2004 after the invasion. Then he started climbing the military ladder ever since he is now the Commander of the Iraq Special Operation Forces (ISOF) all trained by American advisers and equipped with American weaponry. In this capacity he has been directing Iraqi Special Forces in the 2014 Anbar campaign[1]
He was born in 1966 in the Iraqi province of Dohuk, where it is mostly inhabited by Kurds. Since he was at a late teenage age he joined the force in the north known as the Peshmerga, Kurdish Forces that were against the Baathist regime and fought against the at then Iraqi Army until 1991. But Barwari was still with Peshmerga until 2004.
