Dipl.-Ing. Ernst Hammer[Notes 1] (20 October 1884 – 2 December 1957) was a highly decorated Generalleutnant in the Wehrmacht during World War II. He was also a recipient of the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross. The Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross was awarded to recognise extreme battlefield bravery or successful military leadership. Ernst Hammer was captured by American troops in April 1945 and was released April 1947.
