Ernst Frömming (February 4, 1911 – August 18, 1959)[1] was a Luftwaffe officer during World War II, and a recipient of the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross (German language: Ritterkreuz des Eisernen Kreuzes). The Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross was awarded to recognise extreme battlefield bravery or successful military leadership. He also commanded the Fallschirm-Pionier-Bataillon 1. During the Battle of Monte Cassino he managed to built a bridge across the Savio river which enabled the 1. Fallschirmjäger-Division to cross the river with its heavy weapons.
