Dhan Ryan Alar Bayot (July 25, 1992 – May 24, 2017) was a Filipino soldier who died in the 2017 siege of Marawi.

Early life[]

Bayot hailed from Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay.[1] He was the son of Sergeant Larry Bayot of the 1st Infantry Battalion.[2]

Marawi siege[]

Bayot was assigned at the detachment of the Philippine Army's 51st Infantry Battalion (51IB) located in Barangay Lilod, Marawi. He held the rank of Private First Class.[3]

In 2017, Bayot and his team were assigned to provide additional security near the home of a Local Government Official against the Maute Group. On May 24, Bayot and his team were attacked,[4][better source needed] and Bayot was the only survivor. He called the commander and asked him to bomb his location because he was surrounded by terrorists.[lower-alpha 1][5][6] Bayot's corpse and those of the nine other soldiers were retrieved five days after the incident. It was concluded that Bayot did not die from the military bombing since his body was found to be mutilated and his throat slit open.[1]

Notes[]

  1. His last words is "Just bomb my location sir!"
