The Defense Intelligence Agency Headquarters (DIA Headquarters) is the headquarters of the Defense Intelligence Agency. It is located on Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling in Washington, DC. DIA Headquarters was built in 1987 and designed by Smith, Hinchman and Grylls Associates to consolidate DIA activities in the Washington, DC area. The facility is the headquarters of the National Intelligence University and home to the John T. Hughes Library. In 2005 DIA opened the Headquarters Expansion which allowed for more DIA personnel to serve under one roof than ever before and served as the headquarters for the Office of the Director of National Intelligence from 2005 until 2008 when the DNI's own facility was opened at Liberty Crossing in McLean, VA.[1] Currently, approximately 30% of DIA's workforce serves in the Headquarters. The facility also houses the DIA Patriot's Memorial which commemorates 21 Defense Intelligence Agency employees who have died in the service of the agency and of the United States as well as the 9/11 Memorial which honors seven employees who died in the attacks of September, 11 2001 at the Pentagon and the Torch Bearers Wall which recognizes employees' exceptional contributions to the agency’s mission. The Headquarters also houses the United States Strategic Command’s Joint Functional Component Command for Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (JFCC-ISR).
