Defence Services Command and Staff College is a government owned defense college that provides training to Bangladeshi military officers and is located in Mirpur, Dhaka, Bangladesh.[2][3] Defence Services Command and Staff College is a prime military institution of Bangladesh Armed Forces. Established in 30 December 1977, DSCSC provides professional military education to selected mid-career officers of the three services and prepares them for assumption of increasing responsibilities both in command and staff appointment. Here officers from the Army, Navy and Air Force from home and abroad learn about operations of war in a joint environment encompassing Land, Air and Maritime forces. The College is well acclaimed internationally as a centre of excellence for study on subjects of contemporary military interest, and has so far graduated over 4200 officers including 860+ officers from 40 different countries. The college is affiliated to the Bangladesh University of Professionals which offers a 'MSc in Military Studies' degree on successful completion of the course. Located at Mirpur a suburb of Dhaka city, 16 Km away from the city center, the College provides a wonderful campus with adequate infrastructure for education, training, research, housing, sporting and recreational facilities for the student officers.

The institute was established on 30 December 1977 with the support of British Military Advisory Team. The college is run by Bangladesh Army, Bangladesh Navy and Bangladesh Air Force.[2] A British Military Advisory Team (BMAT) headed by a Chief Instructor, was the founding and driving force in running the training curriculum in the initial days of the college. The inaugural batch had 30 students from all the three services of Bangladesh Armed Forces and Bangladesh Police. The college ran short courses of six-month duration jointly for the three services for the first three years. In 1980, the course duration was increased to 10 months. That year, a separate Air Wing was also opened, and invitation to overseas students was started. Separate Naval Wing was opened in 1982.The last member of BMAT left the college on 30 October 1992. Presently, the college is run entirely by Bangladeshi Staff. The first Commandant of the college was Major General Muzammel Hossain, and the Chief Instructor was Brigadier T A Gibson of British Army. Brigadier A M Mansur Ahmed, psc was the first Bangladeshi Chief Instructor. Later, he also became the Commandant of the college.
Since 1977, the course strength has been more than quadrupled. So far, 3230 students graduated from the college. This includes 673 overseas students around the world.
