Vice-Admiral Sir Charles Hughes-Hallet KCB CBE (1898-1985), was Chief of Staff, Home Fleet, 1950-1951, and Head of British Naval Mission, Washington, 1952-1954.

Biography[]

Born on 6 April 1898, Hughes-Hallet was educated at Bedford School, Emmanuel College, Cambridge and at the Royal Naval Colleges at Osborne and Dartmouth. After distinguished service during the Second World War he was promoted to the rank of rear-admiral in 1949, appointed as Chief of Staff, Home Fleet, 1950-1951, promoted to the rank of vice-admiral in 1951, and appointed as Head of British Naval Mission, Washington, 1952-1954.

He was the brother of Vice-Admiral John Hughes-Hallett CB DSO. He died on 2 December 1985.
