Brig. Gen. Charles B. Jiggetts

Charles Brandon Jiggetts (February 26, 1926 - March 16, 2010) was a United States Air Force Brigadier General.

Early life

Charles was born on February 26, 1926 in Henderson, North Carolina. He graduated from high school at Henderson Institute in 1943.

Military career

Military assignments

• 1944-May 1946: Enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Forces and was honorably discharged in May 1946.
• August 1950-1952: Commissioned a Second Lieutenant through the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps program.
  • Group Adjutant and Supply Officer, Basic Military Training Center at Sampson Air Force Base, New York
• 1952-1957: Attended flying school at James Connally Air Force Base, Texas; later become an Aircraft Observer and Radar Intercept Officer
  • Aircraft Observer and Radar Intercept Officer, Tyndall Air Force Base, Florida, McGuire Air Force Base, New Jersey; and Elmendorf Air Force Base, Alaska
• July 1957-1960: 98th Fighter-Interceptor Squadron, Dover Air Force Base, Delaware; later Squadron Radar Officer
  • 1959-1960: Attended the Communications Officer Course at Keesler Air Force Base, Mississippi
• 1960-June 1963: 27th Communications Squadron, Andersen Air Force Base, Guam
• June 1963-March 1964: Attended the Communications-Electronics Staff Officer Course at Keesler Air Force Base
• March 1964-May 1966: Maintenance Officer, Chief of Maintenance and Wing Communications-Electronics Officer with the 92nd Strategic Aerospace Wing, Fairchild Air Force Base, Washington
• May 1966-May 1967: Communications-Electronics Requirements Officer, Headquarters 7th Air Force, Tan Son Nhut Air Base, Republic of Vietnam
• May 1967-August 1969: Joint Communications Staff Officer with the U.S. Strike Command at MacDill Air Force Base, Florida
• August 1969-September 1971: Technical assistant to the Director for Telecommunications Policy, Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense (Installations and Logistics), Headquarters U.S. Air Force, Washington, D.C.
  • Chief of the Program Management Division for Communications-Electronics, Headquarters Strategic Air Command, Offutt Air Force Base, Nebraska
• September 1971-July 1974: Military Assistant to the Director of the Office of Telecommunications Policy, Executive Office of the President of the United States, Washington, D.C
• July 1974-July 1976: Vice Commander of the Air Force Communications Command's Northern Communications Area at Griffiss Air Force Base, New York
• July 1976-June 1979: Commander of the Northern Communications Area
• June 1979-February 1981: Director of Communications and Data Processing (later reorganized as Directorate of Command, Control and Communications System), J-6, Pacific Command at Camp H. M. Smith, Hawaii
• February 1981-July 1981: Deputy Commander of the Air Force Communications Command for Combat Communications and Reserve Force Matters, Scott Air Force Base, Illinois
• July 1981-November 1, 1982: Vice Commander of the Air Force Communications Command

He retired on November 1, 1982 as a Brigadier General.

Death

Charles passed away on March 16, 2010 in Clifton, Virginia. He was buried in Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia.
