This category encompasses British women invested with the Order of the Garter after 1987, when the rank of Lady Companion was instituted. Prior to this time, they were invested as Ladies of the Order of the Garter. British royal women continue to be invested as Ladies of the Order of the Garter. Foreign royal women are invested as Extra Ladies of the Order of the Garter.
