Articles related to census-designated places (CDP) in the U.S. state of Michigan. The CDPs are, by definition, areas which are not separately incorporated as municipalities, though they may represent an area within or adjacent to a municipality (sometimes with the same name or a similar name as the municipality). In a few cases, an entire township may be defined as a census-designated place. This is done so that the township will appear in both the listing of county sub-divisions (like other townships) and also in the listing of places (like cities, villages, and CDPs).
The places may represent unincorporated communities with a distinct identity. In some cases, the CDPs are an aggregation of adjoining communities. They may also represent urbanized areas associated with an adjacent municipality, but outside of the municipal boundaries.
