This is a category of airfields used by the United States Army Air Forces during World War II in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, although the vast majority were located in England.
They were used by Eighth and Ninth Air Forces as airfields for carrying out strategic bombing (8th AF) and for launching tactical air attacks (9th AF) on enemy targets on the European continent. After D-Day, most Ninth Air Force units moved to Advanced Landing Grounds established in the liberated areas of France to support the Allied ground forces.
Most were closed by the end of September 1945 with the end of World War II in Europe and the United States' redeployment of forces to Germany or back to the United States.
