The Battle of Harasta began on 14 November 2017, after rebel forces, led by Ahrar al-Sham, launched an assault against Syrian Army positions in Base 46 and Police Housing area of Harasta suburb. Shortly after, they have managed to capture an army outpost and kill Major General Walid Khawashqi.[14] Two points within the perimeter of the base were captured by the militants on the morning of 15 November, but regained by the army in the evening amid airstrikes on rebel positions conducted by the Russian Air Force after rebel violation of de-escalation agreement.[15][16][17] On 16 November a rebel attack on the base was claimed to be repeled, but Ahrar al-Sham released videos showing their presence within the Armored Vehicle base.[18] Later in the day SAA sources claimed Ahrar al-Sham captured a command post near Regiment 46 base.[19] On 25 November, SAA sources claimed that all of the areas captured by the rebels have been retaken by the SAA.[20] But, the rebels claimed they repelled the army's attack on their positions inside the base.[21]
