Lieutenant General Anil Chauhan, AVSM, SM, VSM is the current Commander, III Corps of the Indian Army and assumed office on 1 January 2017. He assumed the post from Lt General Abhay Krishna.[1][2][3][4][5]

Early life and education[]

Chauhan is an alumnus of the National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla and Indian Military Academy, Dehradun.[1][4]

Career[]

Chauhan was commissioned into the 11 Gorkha Rifles in 1981. He has held several command, staff and instructional appointments during his career and has experience in counter-insurgency operations in Jammu & Kashmir and Northeast India. He was also server as a United Nations mission to Angola.[1][4]

During his career, he has been awarded the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, the Sena Medal and the Vishisht Seva Medal for his service.[1][4]
