The Air Efficiency award, abbreviated to AE when placed after a holder's name, was a United Kingdom honour given for ten years' efficient service in the Reserve Air Forces of the United Kingdom, Commonwealth and Empire.[2] Unlike other long service and meritorious conduct awards, both officers and enlisted men were eligible. It was established in 1942.
Use of the post-nominal AE was restricted to officers only. The award was discontinued on 1 April 1999, and replaced by the Volunteer Reserves Service Medal.[3]
