The 6th Dragoon Regiment (French) was a cavalry Regiment of the French Army. It was active from 1673 to 1992.

The French Royal Army[]

The regiment was set up on 14 September 1673 as the Régiment d'Hocquincourt. It took the name Régiment des dragons de la Reine (Queen's Own Dragoons) in 1675, before becoming the 6th Dragoon Regiment in 1791.

The Revolutionary Wars[]

War of the Second Coalition[]

It took part in the battle of Marengo.

The Napoleonic Wars[]

War of the Third Coalition[]

It took part in the battle of Austerlitz.

War of the Fourth Coalition[]

It took part in the battle of Friedland.

Bourbon Restoration[]

It was renamed the Dragons de Monsieur in 1814, briefly reverting to the 6th Dragoon Regiment during the Hundred Days, after which it was dissolved. It was raised again in 1816 as the dragons de la Loire and renamed the 6th Dragoon Regiment in 1825.

World War 1[]

It took part in the Battle of the Yser.

It took part in the Third Battle of the Aisne.

World War 2[]

It was dissolved in 1940.

The Cold War[]

It was raised again as the 6th Dragoon Regiment in 1964 out of the 3e Régiment de Spahis Algériens. It was dissolved in 1992.
