The 51st Signal Battalion (Expeditionary) is a military communications battalion of the United States Army currently part of the 22d Corps Signal Brigade and based at Joint Base Lewis McChord, Washington.

  • Constituted 1 July 1916 in the Regular Army as the 5th Telegraph Battalion, Signal Corps
    • Activated 12 July 1917 at Monmouth Park, New Jersey
    • Re-designated 1 October 1917 as the 55th Telegraph Battalion
    • Re-organised and re-designated 18 March 1921 as the 51st Signal Battalion
    • Re-organised and re-designated 1 March 1945 as the 51st Signal (Operations) Battalion
    • Re-organised and re-designated 8 September 1950 as the 51st (Corps) Signal Battalion
    • Re-organised and re-designated 13 February 1955 as the 51st Signal Battalion

Coat of Arms

  • Shield: Tenné, on a bend argent four telegraph poles in pale cross arm normal to bend sable.
  • Crest: On a wreath of the colours argent and tenmé the right winged foot of Mercury argent.
  • Motto: Semper Constans (Always Constant).
  • Symbolism: Orange and white are the colours traditionally associated with the Signal Corps. The bend is taken from the arms of Lorraine and St Mihiel and represents two of the campaigns in which the unit participated during World War I. The four telegraph poles represent the engagements of the battalion during World War I.
