The 5-Series Class Fast Attack Craft are one of the locally made ship-classes of Myanmar Navy. The first five ships, 551 to 555, were launched in 1996. The ships have a length of 47 meters and a displacement is 260 tons. Seven more ships (556–562) were entered into service between 1996 and 2008.[2][3]
UMS-556 is the first indigenous missile boat in the history of Myanmar Navy. UMS 557, 558 and 559 have the same design. The armaments are also the same. Models UMS-561 and UMS-562 have small modifications of the hull and superstructure. In 2013, the Myanmar Navy built several more gunboats again. The Myanmar Navy also started upgrading the 5-series class FACs with more advanced weapons, including fitting the FAC guns with IGLA surface-to-air missiles and substituting the FACs' main missile weapons with NG-18 30mm close-in weapon systems.[1]
