32 Engineer Regiment RE is a regiment of the British Army's Royal Engineers.

History[]

The 32nd Engineer Regiment was formed in May 1948 at Perham Down after the re-designation of 42nd Assault Engineer Regiment. The regiment was later disbanded in 1957. The regiment was reformed in 1964 at Hohne as 32nd Armoured Engineer Regiment and was assigned directly to support The 1st Corps. In April 1969 the regiment was re-designated as 32nd Field Engineer Regiment. After the change of name the regiment was assigned to the 1st Armoured Division. In 1972 the regiment deployed for the first time, to Northern Ireland in the infantry role, and again 1974 and 1976. The regiment was disbanded for the second time in 1977 as a result of the Mason Review.[1]

In 1980 the regiment was reformed at Verden and the regiment gwas again titled as 32nd Armoured Engineer Regiment and was assigned to the 1st British Corps. In 1981 the regiment moved to Munsterlager. The regiment later served in the Gulf War.[1] In 1993 after the cuts after the Options for Change the regiment was assigned to the 7th Armoured Brigade as the close support engineer regiment. The regiment was re-designated in 1993 as 32nd Engineer Regiment and served in Bosnia in 1995 and 1997. The regiment later deployed to Kosovo in 2000 and to Iraq on Operation Telic in 2003. The regiment also deployed on Operation TELIC VIII, Operation TELIC XII, and in Afghanistan on Operation Herrick XIV. Under the Army 2020 changes the regiment moves to 25 (Close Support) Engineer Group and supports the 1st Strike Brigade based in Catterick. Following the Army 2020 Refine reformed, the regiment has been assigned to 12 (Force Support) Engineer Group.[2]
