By 1855 the regiment's name was changed to the 3rd Training Rifle Regiment. By 1885 the regiment was renamed as the 1st Grenadier Infantry Battalion and gained their 4th company, which was then detached to form the 3rd Academic Rifle Regiment. Upon names changing, the regiment was assigned to the 1st Grenadier Division.
