The 17th Special Tactics Squadron is one of the 10 Special Tactics Squadrons of United States Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC). It is garrisoned at Fort Benning, Georgia.

Overview[]

The 17th STS is the only Special Tactics Squadron is composed solely of Tactical Air Control Party operators and Air Liaison Officers. The other Special Tactics Squadrons are composed of Special Tactics Officers, Combat Controllers, Combat Rescue Officers, Pararescuemen, Special Operations Weather Technicians. The Squadron's the primary mission is to provide special tactics TACPs to the Army's 75th Ranger Regiment for unconventional operations.[1][2]
