The 169th Division was created on April 1949 under the Regulation of the Redesignations of All Organizations and Units of the Army, issued by Central Military Commission on November 1, 1948,[1] basing on the 3rd Training and Consolidation Division of Northeastern Military Region.
The division was basically a second-line unit and never went into battle.
In July 1950 the division was disbanded and reorganized as border troops.
As of July 1950 the division was composed of:
- 505th Regiment;
- 506th Regiment;
- 507th Regiment.
