What country was the couillard trebuchet original from/ where did it first appear in history? Please include a source if you have one
It is my understanding that the 1st digit of a us navy enlisted service number during ww2 was a recruiting code. My uncle's service number was 819 93 56. What does the 8 stand for?
So, yesterday, my cousins gave me a delapidated ammo can. I have been working on cleaning it up. All I know about it is:
It is a .50 BMG can
It carried linked ammo (105 rounds to be specific)
It is a repacked can (used to carry loose ammunition)
Veitnam war era (possibley Korean War also)
Was for a water cooled gun
Has a GRENADIER’S logo on the side
Possibley manufactured by United due to a United logo on the side
Lid hinges lengthwise
Top lid painted grey ish?

I am a retired officer of the Australian Regular Army and an amateur historian, being a member of the Royal Queensland Historical Society
I have come across an uncorroborated story which tells of 106 Japanese marines being spotted coming ashore at Cromarty in North Queensland in April 1942 during WWII. The only troops available to resist the incursion were the American engineer units based at Woodstock airfield. The 46th Engineer Battalion and the 91st Engineer Battalion both helped to build the Woodstock airfield in 1942.
The American troops were brought down by train and a short battle ensured. Apparently two US servicemen were wounded and a number of Japanese marines were killed. The remainder of the Japanese troops were taken prisoner and briefly held at in detention at Kissing Point, Townsville before, presumably, being shipped further south to an established detention camp, probably at Cowra NSW.
Is there any record in the 46th or 91st Engineer Battalion historical files of this engagement?
Can anybody confirm that the engagement did, in fact, occur?
Any assistance which you are able to provide to assist is solving this mystery would be gratefully received. If I can accumulate sufficient objective evidence, I intend to write an article for inclusion in the Queensland Historical Journal and will forward you a copy of the publication.
Best regards
Chris Burgin

Is there anyone here can tell me anything that would confirm I am on the right track. Looking at the record for John Palmer who served in the 27th Foot (Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers) from 14 Oct 1896 to 15th May 1899 Service number 1678.
Going by other info I have found. He was 22 when married in 1904. That meant he was 18 in 1900. Meaning he would have had to lie about his age to enlist.
The only document I found was a UK, Militia Attestation papers. So there's no mention of next of kin or other family members.
Any pointers would be gratefully received.
I'm a former Army Air Corps Radar Technician looking for the name of the air-drop electronics in the C-82 Boxcar that homed in on a previously dropped person behind lines with a beacon that told the Pilot when to drop the paratroopers.
My grandmother served in the USN at the D.C. Naval Ship Yard during WWII. Her niche at ANC reads "MOM3" but I cannot find this in any ratings list - the closest thing I find is MoMM3 but I am not sure if these are the same and just notated differently.
Thanks in advance!

I found a ceramic coffee or beer mug, with the Unit crest and the name PAT. looking for the owner to return it. Due to the type of mug, and its style of insignia, I put it around the end of the unit time frame.
Was there ever an operational CF-104 squadron at CFB Comox?
Q. Would anyone know which Royal Marine units were aboard HMS London and or HMS Shropshire during the evacuation of British subjects from Barcelona in 1936. My uncle was a marine onboard at that time but I cannot find even which Marine unit he was with never mind his regimental number. Any comment would be appreciated. Thanks, Kev.
Can anyone advise what comprised the metal skin on the C-133A? Some say natural steel and others say aluminum. I can't see the steel because of its weight compared to aluminum.
Thanks
